JOINT-MANAGER Carl Heeley has urged supporters to create a “positive energy” at Aggborough as Worcester City look to continue to silence their doubters.

Moments after Daniel Nti fired City to a 3-2 success at fourth-placed AFC Fylde, Heeley took the opportunity to hit back at the “negative people” who he believed were waiting to criticise his team.

Prior to the victory last Saturday, Worcester had secured just one point from three winnable home games and Heeley felt his players and backroom staff received unnecessary criticism.

“We have to rely on loads of volunteers and the staff on the playing front carting stuff around in the cars and keeping stuff in their garages, which takes a lot of dedication,” he said.

“We have had some highs in the last couple of seasons and all of a sudden you are not getting the results you are expecting in three games and people start criticising individuals and pointing figures.

“It drives me crazy because nobody takes the time to come and speak to you and actually listen to the obstacles and problems you have to deal with before you can even get to 3pm on a Saturday afternoon.

“Matt (Gardiner), Snap (Snape) and I have never been defeatist and none of us have ever looked at something negatively.

“We always look at the positive aspects and try to focus on what we can do as a football club and what we can sell to players, so we can do without the people who react after one or two games.”

With the club currently trying to survive while in exile, Heeley said he wanted more people to come forward and help the Vanarama National League North outfit.

“Before you criticise anyone, ask yourself could you do any more? And generally, these people are those who want to criticise everything and every aspect of the football club.

“But they never put themselves forward to give their time to the club for free, so I personally don’t have any time for them because it just does not bring any positive energy. It is easy to criticise but the difficult thing to do is help.”

Heeley, whose side face second-placed North Ferriby United at Aggborough today (3pm), added: “The old cliche is you are only as good as your last game.

“Well, our last game was a brilliant win against one of the best sides in the league so we have got loads of positive energy.

“We have got an honest group of lads who all want to do their very best and they appreciate how they are treated by the staff and the football club.”
