JOINT-MANAGER Carl Heeley is confident Worcester City have got the players to fill the void left by banned full-back Tyler Weir.

City were dealt a blow when it was confirmed Weir had been hit with a two-month ban by the FA after failing to declare he had been approached over match fixing.

The 25-year-old, who has made 23 appearances for Worcester this season, has also got an extra four months, which are suspended until July 1, 2018, after admitting to two separate charges in 2012 and 2013.

Alex Gudger filled in at left-back last Saturday after Weir was unavailable for the clash against North Ferriby United and Heeley said captain Danny Jackman and the versatile Jamie Smith were also options.

“We have lost Tyler and both the player and the club respect the decision of the FA,” Heeley said.

“Whether it is a suspension for stupidity or an injury, we don’t have Tyler for the next two months, so we have got to plan without him and it is another one of the challenges we have to deal with. I am sure we will do.

“We have got a number of players who I am sure can fill the void depending on the opposition and who we feel will be most suitable.

“We have got Alex, who never lets you down whether he plays at left-back or centre-back.

“We have got also Danny, who has plenty of experience and knows the position well, and we have got young Jamie, who will get minutes there when the time is right.”

City take on mid-table Alfreton Town in Vanarama National League North at Aggborough on Saturday (3pm).
