WORCESTER City need to be more “ruthless in both boxes” to end their winless run, insists midfielder Shaun Donnellan.

The Blue and Whites are without a victory in Vanarama National League North in more than a month as they have drawn four and lost one.

Donnellan admitted it had been a “frustrating period” for the team, who have scored just three goals since hammering Stalybridge Celtic 5-0 on February 23 and are just four points above the drop zone.

But Donnellan is confident 17th-placed City can turn their form around as they prepare to face leaders Solihull Moors today (3pm) before travelling to struggling Hednesford Town two days later.

“It has been a frustrating period as we have had some good performances and some not-so-good performances,” he said.

“But the truth of the matter is we have not scored enough.

“We have created plenty of chances but we just have not taken them, so hopefully we can get two wins today and Monday and we will be flying again.

“We are still full of confidence but we need to be more ruthless in both boxes.

“I am sure it will happen but we have not got many games left, so it needs to happen quickly.”

The 19-year-old has bagged four goals in 13 appearances since joining on loan from West Bromwich Albion, including stunners against Corby Town and Curzon Ashton.

However, the 19-year-old, who has agreed to stay at City until the end of the season, says he now knows he does not always have to be the star of the show to help his side.

“I want to influence games but I know now you are not always going to be the stand-out player,” he said.

“You have just got to try to be effective when you get a chance, whether that’s scoring a goal, making an assist or winning a tackle. I was trying to be involved against Harrogate (last Saturday) but it wasn’t happening as the ball wasn’t dropping for me.

“But I was telling myself to stay focused in the moment because the most important thing was to get the point, which we got.”

Donnellan believes his performance in City’s 1-1 draw against Alfreton Town earlier this month was his best since arriving at Aggborough in late December.

He added: “I was an old-school centre midfielder that night and played with my heart, which is what this level of football has taught me to do. I am really enjoying my time at City and just want to keep learning.”
