JOINT-manager Carl Heeley believes Worcester City can end their winless run at high-flying North Ferriby United tomorrow (3pm) and edge closer to safety.

Eighteenth-placed Worcester are four points above the relegation zone in Vanarama National League North after six matches without a victory.

But, with eight games to go in a congested April, Heeley is confident his side, who host Bradford Park Avenue on Tuesday, can get the points required to avoid the drop.

“We need to get a couple of wins on the board and the sooner we get those the better,” Heeley said.

“We will try to get one of them at North Ferriby and then we will try to get one against Bradford at home. That’s the aim,” said Heeley, whose side came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 against leaders Solihull Moors last Saturday.

“It is certainly not going to be easy. But we will be positive as we were against Solihull.

"You could see there is some spirit and character in the side and there is a bit of quality as well.

“So, as long as we can keep people available to us, then I am confident we can get those couple of wins.”

Full-back Tyler Weir could feature for the first time since City’s 3-2 win at AFC Fylde in late January after returning from his two-month ban from football.

Centre-back Wayne Thomas and goalkeeper Nathan Vaughan are also set to be named in the starting line-up after recovering from a back problem and groin injury respectively.

“Nathan, Wayne and Tyler are all influential players,” Heeley said. “There is loads of experience there and that is going to be vital to us.

“We know they are not going to play every single minute of every game, so we have got to be sparing when we use them. But it is great to have them in the squad.”

Heeley also revealed former Derby County striker Deon Burton would be available as City aim to stun Ferriby for the second time this season.

The hosts are on a run of four wins but, having defeated them 2-0 at Aggborough earlier this year, Heeley believes Worcester can claim the double at Grange Lane.

“North Ferriby are very good at what they do and it is going to be doubly difficult at their place as we have not got anything from there on the last couple of occasions,” he added.

“But we are keen to reverse that trend. Our game-plan does not need to be tremendously different to how it was when we played them at home, so the players just need to carry out those instructions for the full 90 minutes.

“There is going to be challenges all afternoon but the team that wins the battles in both penalty areas is the team that will win the game.”
