FULL-back Tyler Weir says he is “over the moon” after becoming the first player to pen a new deal at Worcester City.

Weir has been a key figure for City over the past three seasons and his decision to stay will be a welcome boost for manager Carl Heeley.

There were fears the 25-year-old was looking elsewhere after admitting he wanted to have “one last go” at being a professional footballer.

But Weir, who has made 29 appearances this season, has vowed to repay the Vanarama National League North outfit after they stuck by him during his two-month ban.

“I’m hugely thankful to City,” said Weir, who was suspended in January after failing to “immediately declare” to the Football Association he had been approached to fix a match.

"The fans, management and squad have all been great to me and I want to re-pay their faith.

“I'm obviously over the moon about re-signing for Worcester City for next season. Onwards and upwards."

Weir is the longest serving player in City’s current squad having first joined in 2012 before returning to the club after a spell at Gloucester City in 2013.

Heeley said: "Tyler is a great player, he's a down to earth lad and we are extremely happy to have him on board for the next campaign.

“He's a huge asset to the squad and were thankful that he's committed for 2016/17.”
