REJUVENATED striker Kyle Perry hopes to have earned a new deal at Worcester City after enjoying his short spell at the club.

Since arriving in March, the 6ft 4in front man featured eight times, scoring once and making two assists to help keep City in National League North.

Perry says he has relished being at a club who play for the “right reasons” after his “ugly experience” at relegated Hednesford Town.

The 30-year-old has vowed to hit the ground running with City next season if offered a new contract by manager Carl Heeley.

“I have only been here a short time but I can see they are doing things for the right reasons, instead of the wrong reasons, and that is something I want to be a part of,” he said.

“I have been at a few places where it has not been about the football, which is a real head stretcher. It was an ugly experience (at Hednesford) and I was not enjoying it. It was not the right place for me.

“But Carl (Heeley) and Matt (Gardiner) brought me in, let me know what they wanted from me and it has been fantastic.

“I have been trying to get to know the lads, show them what I am about and earn a deal for next season.

“I want to get in the mix and enjoy it again. I don’t want to start pre-season with a brand new squad as it’s tough to get out of the blocks, so hopefully it will be positive for me and for Worcester and we can build going forward.”

During his 12-year career, Perry has played for a host of clubs, including Port Vale, Mansfield, Tamworth, Lincoln City and Nuneaton.

The forward, who scored six goals for Hednesford, admitted the environment at Worcester was one of the best he had experienced.

“There is a great set of lads at City with bags of experience and young lads who want to listen. It’s refreshing to have those kind of players around you,” he added. “I am enjoying it here and getting a thirst back for the game because it has been fantastic.

“I am champing at the bit and want to show them what I can do (next season), so we will see what happens (in the summer).

“I know Worcester want success and so do I, so hopefully we can sort something out.”
