NATHAN Vaughan is poised to join Solihull Moors after announcing his departure from Worcester City in a bid to have "one more crack" in the Vanarama National League.

The 34-year-old goalkeeper has agreed terms with the West Midlands outfit and is due to sign on the dotted line this weekend.

City appeared to be on course to keeping the shot-stopper who has previously spoken of his desire to stay at the club.

But Heeley revealed Vaughan, who made more than 60 appearances since joining from Kidderminster Harriers in 2014, had decided to depart City after being approached by promoted Solihull.

"Nathan informed me last week that he's had an offer to join Solihull Moors,” said Heeley.

"He feels that he wants one more crack in the Vanarama National League and we understand his reasons.

“It's mightily disappointing but we wish him all the best.

“He has given us some great memories as part of the team that beat Coventry and took Scunthorpe all the way."

The news will a big blow for City, who will now begin their search for a new goalkeeper that can fill the void left by Vaughan.

During his two-year spell at the club, the former Evesham United keeper produced a string of fine performances and notably saved Reda Johnson’s penalty as City famously defeated Coventry City at the Ricoh Arena to reach the FA Cup second round last season.

Speaking before the end of the 2015/16 campaign, which saw Worcester finish 17th, Vaughan said he was keen to pledge his future to the club.

“I have really enjoyed myself here,” he said.

“I have spoken to Carl Heeley (manager) (about next season).

“It (my contract) hasn’t been fully sorted out yet but we are well on the way to hopefully keeping me here next season.

“I love the club and the fans and I think I have still got a lot more to give them.

“I am 34 now and have had a niggling injury but I still think I have got a good few more years left in me.”

Meanwhile, City are closing in on appointing a new first team coach following the departure of Matt Gardiner.

Heeley added: “Discussions are at an advanced stage, so hopefully in the next week or so, we will be in the position to announce the appointment."
