SEVERAL trialists will be aiming to stake their claim when they line up for Worcester City at Stratford Town tonight (7.45pm).

A number of new faces featured on Saturday as a header from centre-back Tom Sharpe sealed a 1-0 victory over Stourport Swifts.

And manager Carl Heeley is likely to give them another chance to shine against their Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division opponents.

Experienced full-back Andy Gallinagh was among those to feature for City in their opening pre-season clash last weekend.

The 31-year-old, who made 130 appearances for Cheltenham Town between 2003 and 2012, was released by Bath City in the summer.

Following his exit from Chasetown, Rhys Thompson also appears to be battling for the right-back role, which has been vacated by Sam Minihan who has joined Stockport County.

Another defender looking to impress Heeley is Ben Priest, who was part of Dundee’s development squad last season after an injured-plagued youth career at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Forward Brad Williams is bidding to secure a club after leaving Bath along with Gallinagh.

Former Port Vale midfielder Chekaine Steele and fellow trialist Cordell White also played in the second half at Swifts.

Following Nathan Vaughan’s departure, ex-Birmingham City youngster Leighton Smith and Alex Connell, who was playing for Welsh Premier Division side Haverfordwest County AFC last term, seem to be going head-to-head for the goalkeeper’s gloves.

Worcester have also welcomed back forward Michael Taylor, who has had a couple of spells at the club and last played for them during the 2014-15 campaign.

But former City winger Dave McDermott, who was also invited to pre-season training, is unlikely to play at Stratford after being stretchered off against Stourport.

Meanwhile, Evesham United host League Two new boys Cheltenham Town tonight (7.45pm) after winning their first two friendlies without conceding a goal.

The Robins have beaten Forest Green Rovers 4-0 and Pershore Town 1-0.
