JORDAN Wilson announced himself to Worcester City’s supporters with a stunning second half strike to secure a 1-1 draw at Stratford Town.

The promising striker, who was part of Shrewsbury Town’s youth team last season, was among a number of trialists making their first appearances for City.

But it was Wilson who grabbed the headlines when his 25-yard effort hit the back of the net to cancel out Trey Braithwaite’s opener.

Former Walsall defender James Chambers and ex-Alfreton Town goalkeeper Nick Draper were also introduced by manager Carl Heeley.

And they had their work cut out in the opening period as Stratford took the game to their Vanarama National League North opponents.

Dior Angus got the first shot on target inside three minutes before Simeon Tulloch was presented with a glorious chance 10 minutes later.

Jamie Shelden broke down the left before putting in a superb cross for Tulloch whose effort was saved at point-blank range by Draper.

Worcester, who were playing with three at the back, were knocking the ball around nicely in patches, with Sean Geddes, Junior English and Lee Hughes exchanging passes.

But only Hughes could breach Stratford’s defence as he latched on to Kyle Perry’s flick on before firing the ball straight at Niall Cooper.

The hosts, meanwhile, were growing in confidence and they opened the scoring on 24 minutes.

Will Grocott got possession on the edge of the area before slotting the ball through to Braithwaite, who found the bottom corner.

City’s best chance of the half came in the final few minutes as a wonderful delivery from Hughes found Perry, but the striker missed the target with a header.

Worcester started the second half brightly and came close to levelling courtesy of a piece of brilliance from Hughes.

The former Premier League striker pounced on a mistake before producing a sensational lob which cannoned off the crossbar.

It also came at a cost to Stratford as James Cutts, who had only been on the pitch five minutes after replacing Cooper, had to be stretchered off with a back injury.

Despite the blow, which led to a five-minute break in play, Stratford went straight on the attack and Draper had to be alert to save Sheldon’s powerful effort.

Looking to turn the tide, Heeley made a triple substitution on 60 minutes and the trio immediately made a difference.

Matt Birley, who was making his return to the club, looked bright on the ball, while Jamie Smith fired wide with almost his first touch.

But it was Wilson who made the telling impact on 74 minutes as he cut inside on his left foot before unleashing a terrific shot which flew into the top corner.

The sparse crowd were then almost treated to another spectacular strike as Jarrell Hylton’s audacious lob was tipped behind by Draper.

The home side had the better of the final ten minutes, but City, who also brought trialists Brad Williams and Chekaine Steele on, saw out a draw.
