JAMIE Smith has dropped down five divisions to play for Droitwich Spa after struggling to establish himself at Worcester City.

The 19-year-old left-sided player has agreed to sign dual forms with the Midlands Division Two outfit and City.

After making 13 appearances last season, manager Carl Heeley offered the youngster a new deal in the summer with the hope he would kick on this term.

However, Smith produced a poor display against Romulus in pre-season, which led Heeley to consider sending him out to another club to gain experience.

The homegrown ace, who is capable of playing in a number of positions, will now team up with Droitwich Spa joint-manager and former City striker Mark Owen, who he has previously worked with.

Wayne Oliver, who works alongside Owen at Droitwich, hailed the arrival of the talented teenager as a major coup for the club.

"We're delighted to have Jamie on board, he's a quality player and can play in a number of positions,” he said.

Since breaking into Worcester’s first team, he has made 22 appearances over three seasons in Vanarama National League North.

His first goal for the club came against Boston United last term.
