WORCESTER City have missed “energetic” full-back Tyler Weir, according to manager Carl Heeley.

Weir made his first appearance of the campaign against FC United of Manchester on Saturday after recovering from an ankle injury sustained in pre-season.

And the 25-year-old made an instant impact as he provided the assist for Colby Bishop’s equaliser and helped his side hold on for a 1-1 draw.

“Tyler came back and shored us up a little bit as they (FC United) did not get much joy down his side,” Heeley said.

“He is possibly the best one-on-one defender we have got and we have missed him. He gives us energy, gets forward well and created the goal for us.”

With Richard Batchelor ruled out with a tight thigh, Danny Jackman also returned to the starting line-up and captained the side.

The 33-year-old midfielder appeared to have lost his place in the team having not featured this season but Heeley insisted he remained a key member of his squad.

“Jacko is assured and has got experience,” he said.

“There are things that Danny can’t do but his strengths are that he can keep the ball for us, he is intelligent and gives good information to the players who look up to him.”

Heeley added: “Joe Fitzpatrick is a similar type of player to Danny and I can’t pick them both.

“Of course (Danny is in my plans).

“I don’t always make the right decisions. You get many wrong and, certainly in hindsight, you would do a lot of things differently.

“But I intend to pick the best players to win every game and the players all intend to do their very best.

“But, when you ask Jacko to do a job for you, he rarely lets you down and I am delighted to have him on board.”
