MANAGER Carl Heeley has warned his players to either stay “switched on” for 90 minutes or risk being replaced at Worcester City.

Heeley accused some of his players of “feeling sorry for themselves” in the latter stages of City’s 1-0 defeat to Chorley on Saturday.

And he admits he is “getting close” to looking at making changes to his squad after a run of six games without a win in Vanarama National League North.

“There has to be a point in time where you say I can’t talk to this group or these individuals anymore, so you change it and we are getting close to that now,” he said.

“The basic requirement is that you give everything you have got for the whole game and I think in the last 15 to 20 minutes there were certainly people out there feeling sorry for themselves.

“But there is one goal in it and you have to keep going.

“I thought we huffed and puffed, but there were one or two who probably accepted that we were going to get beat a little bit too easily for me.”

Second-from-bottom City face mid-table Stockport County at Edgeley Park today (3pm) and Heeley insists he wants to see a reaction.

“I have not got a clue how it is going to go, but one thing I do know is it is not going to be for the want of preparation that we give ourselves the best chance,” he said.

“Are individuals capable of concentrating for 90 minutes? That’s another question I don’t know, but based on the six games we have played so far I would say not.

“But they are going to have an opportunity (against Stockport) and they have got to respond because nobody is going to put it right for them unless we change the personnel.

“We want to give everybody every opportunity, but you can only talk for so long.

Heeley continued: “When individuals are making mistakes and switching off that’s down to lapses in concentration.

“So you get to a point where you either tell the individuals or you change the individuals and we will get to a point in time within the changing rooms when we make that decision.

“We need to get some points on the board and it is glaringly obvious that we are not helping our own cause.”

City will be boosted by the return of attacking midfielder Ebby Nelson-Addy who has served his suspension, but centre-back Sam Oji is set to miss out after sustained a knock to his knee against Chorley.

“He has had a cruciate rebuild on there and there has just been impact on that joint,” said Heeley, who is likely to welcome back Tom Sharpe to the starting line-up.

“But it is not a twist which is good news.

He added: “We have not kept a clean sheet in six games and that means that you have got to score to get at least a point.

“We have got two points so let’s get the basics right defensively first rather than start running before we can walk.”
