FULL-back Tyler Weir believes Worcester City need to turn the Victoria Ground into a “fortress” as he looks ahead to two “massive” home games.

Worcester take on visiting Gainsborough Trinity today (3pm) before hosting mid-table Alfreton Town on Tuesday (7.45pm).

And Weir feels they need to secure “at least four points” as they aim to move off the bottom of the Vanarama National League North.

The 25-year-old says they are keen to clinch their first league victory at Bromsgrove Sporting’s ground having drawn 2-2 with Harrogate Town.

They have also lost 3-2 to Gloucester City and 1-0 to Chorley at home since making the move from Kidderminster Harriers’ Aggborough base.

“We need to make Bromsgrove a fortress,” Weir said. “We must get to grips with it because people will not want to come and play football there if we do.

“We need to make the most of it now and start making it a hard place to come to. We must be hard to break down and get some points on the board.”

With Nuneaton Town drawing 1-1 against AFC Telford United on Monday, City’s 1-0 defeat to Stockport County saw them slip to the foot of the table on goal difference.

After several changes in the summer, Weir admitted it had taken “longer than expected” to gel as a team but felt they had still let manager Carl Heeley, the fans and themselves down.

“To get two points out of a possible 21 is not good enough, so we need to sort something out quickly and get a win as soon as possible,” he said.

The Blue and Whites now face 16th-placed Gainsborough, who have won just one of their first seven games.

“It is a massive game even this early on in the season,” Weir added.

“We need to get at least four points from the next two games. If not, then six.

“No wins in seven games is playing on our minds but when we get that first win we will be able to kick on from there.”
