City (4-4-2)
7 Ross – was pretty reliable between the posts as he made several good saves to help out City’s disjointed back four.
4 English – did not look comfortable playing at right-back and was lucky not to cost his side the match when he was red carded for a rash tackle.
6 Chambers – will hope to have better days in a City shirt but did a decent job considering it was his first competitive game in over a year.
6 Sharpe – did not appear totally at ease, especially in the opening period, but the centre-back dug in well towards the end.
5 Weir – a below-par performance from the full-back, who had trouble containing Darnelle Bailey-King as he struck the post twice.
6 Steele – missed a couple of great chances to score but plugged away and put in an admirable shift in defence when City went down to 10 men.
6 Jackman – struggled to impose himself in a frustrating opening period but the City skipper kept his side believing and made a crucial block late on.
5 Batchelor – gifted Gainsborough the opener with a misplaced header and was taken off at half-time as City looked to turn the tide.
7 Keane – often got beyond his marker and although some crosses went astray he at least asked questions of the visitors’ defence.
5 Bishop – an off-day for the young striker who struggled to get into the match before being substituted by Steven Craig at the break.
8 HUGHES – showed all his experience and goal-scoring prowess as he ran hard all afternoon and took his chances superbly well to secure a point.
