WORCESTER City are “starting to become a team”, according to striker Colby Bishop.

They ended their eight-match winless streak in National League North with a 5-3 success over Alfreton Town on Tuesday night.

Bishop admitted their sorry start to the campaign had put pressure on their shoulders.

But, having now secured their first victory, the 19-year-old, who was among a number of new recruits to join City in the summer, believes they are showing signs of coming together as a team.

“I felt like we were so much better on Tuesday and like we are starting to become a team,” he said.

“You don’t often score five goals but we have got so much attacking flair up-front and I think it has paid off.

“When you keep drawing and losing by one goal, you know you are so close and it can get really annoying.

“But, having now got that win, it feels like so much weight has been lifted off our shoulders.

“The team are very happy in the changing room and I think we can go on now to do better things.”

The former Notts County youngster was delighted to contribute to their maiden success as he came off the bench to score two goals in three minutes.

“For the first one I tried to back-heel it, thinking I am Lionel Messi, and it has hit my other shin and fell nicely for me,” he said.

“But it was a nice finish and for the second one I knew as soon as I got it on my left foot I was going to get it on target.

“It is a great feeling to get the first win and it was a great game to watch as well.

“We like to entertain and you don’t get much more entertaining than that. I really enjoyed being involved in it.”

Worcester face back-to-back away games against bottom side Bradford Park Avenue on Saturday (3pm) and fifth-placed Brackley Town on Tuesday night (7.45pm).

“We will go to Bradford will a lot of confidence,” Bishop continued.

“So hopefully we can go there, get a win, then go onto Tuesday and nick a win as well. It is so tight down there in the table.

“The other night we drew and we were out of the relegation area, so you never know after this win and a couple more we could be in the top 10.”
