CENTRE-back Tom Sharpe is confident Worcester City can carry their impressive Vanarama National League North form into the Emirates FA Cup.

Worcester take on AFC Telford United in the second qualifying round at the Victoria Ground tomorrow (3pm) aiming to extend their winning streak to four matches.

Sharpe says his side are “buzzing” after ending his former club Brackley Town’s perfect home record this season with a 2-0 victory on Tuesday night.

And he insists they are determined to continue their momentum against a Telford side who have lost their last two league games.

“We were looking forward to the FA Cup before we got these few wins,” said Sharpe, part of the side who reached the first round last season before losing 3-0 at Sheffield United.

“But now we are in a bit of form there is no reason why we can’t keep it going into the cup as we want to get into the first round again.

“After last season at Sheffield United and getting to the second round the season before, it would be amazing to do the same again.

“The lads are buzzing, so we should be going into the match full of confidence.”

Worcester finished last month at the bottom of the table but, after 10 points from their last four games lifted them to 12th, Sharpe says they have “turned a corner”.

“We knew we were playing well but we were just making individual errors,” said the 27-year-old, who played a starring role in securing back-to-back clean sheets against Bradford Park Avenue last Saturday and Brackley in midweek.

“We knew if we cut those out, we would get there. Getting that first win (against Alfreton Town) last week has given us a massive lift. The win just needed to come.

“It is a shame it didn’t come against Harrogate on the opening day as it could have been a lot different but we have learnt a lot from it and will be looking to kick on now.”

Sharpe has also praised the impact of 21-year-old keeper Ryan Boot, who joined City on an initial one-month loan from League One side Port Vale.

“I think Booty has done very well since he has come in as he gives you a bit more confidence at the back,” he said.

“You can’t take anything away from the other keepers (Ethan Ross and Nick Draper) but it can’t be a coincidence that he has come in and we have got two clean sheets.

“As a team, we just look solid.”
