GOALKEEPER Ryan Boot admits he has been able to sleep a lot easier in recent weeks thanks to Worcester City’s “solid” back four.

The on-loan stopper felt he was to blame for City’s FA Cup exit two weeks ago having made a couple of costly mistakes in their 3-0 defeat to Brackley Town.

But Worcester have since recorded back-to-back clean sheets with a 4-0 victory over Stalybridge Celtic on Saturday after a 0-0 draw at Boston United the previous weekend.

“I held my hands up (after the defeat to Brackley) and apologised because that was my fault but other than that we have been solid,” he said.

“I was very frustrated and I could not get to sleep that night. But when you make mistakes you have got to put it behind you, forget about it and move on to the next game.”

Ebby Nelson-Addy gave City the lead on 44 minutes against Celtic before Lee Hughes struck on the hour mark and Colby Bishop and Cieron Keane netted late on.

But Boot insisted it was the performance of Worcester’s defenders which was key to their bumper win at the Victoria Ground.

“The second goal was crucial but the man of the match for me was Sam Oji. He was brilliant,” said Boot, who had a loan spell at City in the 2014-15 campaign.

“I am very confident with the four lads in front of me. Because I knew Graham (Hutchison) and Tyler (Weir) at the back, I was confident from the first game as I knew what they were capable of.

“But the likes of Sam have come in and done absolutely brilliantly, so I am confident with him in front of me as well.”

It was Boot’s fifth clean sheet in eight appearances for City since joining on loan from Port Vale last month.

The 21-year-old agreed to extend his stay at the club until early November and hopes to help City go on another run.

“I have extended my loan for another month as it’s good to be playing games,” he said.

“It’s helping me with my confidence and development, so I can’t go wrong here.

“It went well here last time as it’s a good club and Carl (manager Heeley) has confidence in me, so I said I would come and help him out.”

Boot, whose side travel to high-flying Darlington on Saturday (3pm), added: “Hopefully, we can go on another run again and get some more points on the board.

“We’ve got Darlington away next, which will be a long trek, but we will be going there looking to get another three points.”
