WORCESTER City defender James Chambers is “back to square one” after a recurrence of the injury that ruled him out for more than six weeks.

Manager Carl Heeley revealed the 35-year-old “broke down” in training and he admitted it was “impossible” to say when he would be back.

Chambers has not featured for City since tearing his hamstring in his National League North debut against Gainsborough Trinity in early September.

It appeared the former Leicester City, West Brom and Watford player was on track for a return to action after coming back to full training.

However, Chambers now looks set for another “frustrating” spell on the sidelines while City prepare for Saturday’s clash at Darlington (3pm).

“James did train but he’s had a recurrence of his hamstring problem,” Heeley said.

“It is really frustrating for us and for James as well, so we are back to square one with that unfortunately.

“We haven’t pushed him, we have left it to him and he broke down in training last Thursday evening, so we have got to start again.

“He is getting some treatment away from the club as well, so hopefully that will help him, but to put a time on it (his return) is impossible.”

Chambers announced his retirement last July after finishing his third season at League One side Walsall.

But, after turning out in pre-season for City, Chambers penned a deal at the club and Heeley said he was determined to get him back on the pitch.

“The agreement we have with James is very flexible but it works for him and for us,” Heeley added.

“We want to try to get him back playing again. It’s just unfortunate he’s picked up a problem that’s reoccurred so we have just got to be patient with that.

“But nothing has changed with that situation and it’s unlikely to.”

Pacy winger Nathan Olukanmi has joined Southern League Premier Division side Leamington on a short-term loan deal.

The 23-year-old has made six appearances for City since arriving in the summer but has yet to gain a starting spot.

Heeley said: “Paul (manager Holleran) asked me about his availability, so I said he can go out there and see how he gets on.

“Nathan hasn’t had a start and he’s only been getting little bits of time on the pitch, probably because of the form of other players, so he needs to get some minutes.”
