PROUD new dad Tyler Weir admits Worcester City’s 3-0 victory over Altrincham on Saturday capped the "best week" of his life.

Weir experienced the joy of becoming a father for the first time on Monday evening when his partner, Hannah Bolton, gave birth to little Carlton.

The full-back then celebrated his 26th birthday on Friday before helping City sweep 10-man Altrincham aside in Vanarama National League North.

“It’s probably been the best week of my life,” said the Ledbury-based footballer, who named his 7lb 2oz son after his late grandfather, Carlton Weir.

“I had a text after the game to say they had got back home (from hospital).

“It was my birthday on Friday as well, so I am looking forward to celebrating with them.”

He added: “We named him Carlton. My granddad passed away about three months ago and that was his name.

“It’s also my dad’s middle name and my middle name, so we wanted to keep it going as it’s a family tradition.”

With the birth of his first child imminent last weekend, Weir said it was an anxious time after making the decision to make the long trip for City’s clash against Darlington 1883.

It turned out to be a “day to forget” for Worcester who suffered a 5-1 defeat, but Weir said he was just relieved to get back to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.

“Hannah was due on Monday, but she was having pains, so I thought she was going to be early,” said Weir, who also thanked City fan Lee Jackson for giving him a lift.

“I left my phone on the bench, just in case I did get a call, but thankfully it didn’t.

“If I said I didn’t want to go (to Darlington), I am sure he (manager Carl Heeley) would have understood, but I wanted to play.

“Obviously, it didn’t go our way and it was a day to forget.”

Despite the disappointment of the loss, City bounced back with a comfortable win against Altrincham at the Victoria Ground.

Cieron Keane set up Lee Hughes for an early opener before finding the bottom corner himself with a thumping shot from range on 30 minutes.

With Alty down to 10 men following Alan Goodall’s sending off, Ebby Nelson-Addy added a third in the second half as City clinched back-to-back home triumphs to climb to 12th in the table.

“We let ourselves down last week, so to get a clean sheet at home again and a good win it was exactly what we needed,” said Weir, who is now looking forward to spending City’s weekend off from competitive action with his family.

“It’s nice to have the break now, knowing that we have won, but we need to push on again in two week’s time (at home to AFC Telford United on Saturday, November 12).”
