WORCESTER City have failed in their bid to retain the services of Ryan Boot after the goalkeeper joined Macclesfield Town on loan.

Boot returned to Port Vale this week as he was named on the bench in the League One side’s 0-0 draw at Doncaster Rovers in the Checkatrade Trophy on Tuesday night.

Manager Carl Heeley was hopeful of extending the 22-year-old’s stay at City, who face AFC Telford United at the Victoria Ground tomorrow (3pm).

However, Boot has instead agreed a month’s loan deal at Macclesfield who are currently 10th in the National League and are just four points off the play-off places.

Boot’s departure will be a big blow to City as he was key to their revival in the Vanarama National League North, securing six clean sheets in 10 appearances.

With Nick Draper currently on loan at Bedworth United, Ethan Ross looks set to wear the number one jersey against Telford.
