WORCESTER City look set to “gamble” on travelling with one goalkeeper to Moor Lane to face Salford City in Vanarama National League North today (3pm).

Ethan Ross is expected to start in goal but City are considering recalling Nick Draper, who is on loan at Bedworth United, as back-up.

Manager Carl Heeley said he had yet to make a “definite decision” but, having benefitted from a “very strong bench” in their 2-1 win over AFC Telford United last Saturday, was reluctant to “tinker” with his team.

“There is no need to look any different to last weekend unless anything happened to Ethan,” Heeley said.

“It is a bit of a gamble but it paid off (against Telford) as we had positive changes we could make from the bench.

“We have not made a definite decision whether Nick comes back or not but if we had to go with the same again then I would be happy with that.”

Striker Colby Bishop could return to the startling line-up after coming off the bench to score a last-gasp winner against Telford.

Winger Chekaine Steele and club captain Danny Jackman also came on in the second half and made an impression to leave Heeley with “selection problems”.

“You would be happy with any combination of the 16 players we had available to us last weekend because it was a very strong bench,” he said.

“There is no real need to tinker too much. There were players who came on that made an impact but so did the players who played for the previous 60 or 70 minutes, so I have got some selection problems to discuss with (assistant manager) John (Snape).”

Experienced frontman Steven Craig, who has not featured in more than two months due to a groin problem, appears to be back in contention after returning to training.

But veteran defender James Chamber remains sidelined with a hamstring injury and Heeley confirmed he was “still a while away”.   “James was hopeful that in a week or two he would be able to resume training but he hasn’t,” he added.

Heeley said there were “no fresh injuries” as 12th-placed Worcester bid to bag a fourth league win in five games.

City are eight points adrift of Salford, who have made a strong start, climbing to eighth after securing back-to-back promotions.

They are backed by former Manchester United players Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt, Phil and Gary Neville and Singapore businessman Peter Lim.

But Heeley believed the “hype” surrounding the Greater Manchester club created “expectations” and he was confident his side could claim all three points.

“The profile of Salford is very high but with that comes expectations,” he said.

“I am sure their expectation is to challenge to win the league. But, as you have seen, it is very competitive.

“We are under no illusions how tough it will be but we are capable of getting a result. They can deal with the hype. We will just deal with the game.”
