WORCESTER City are taking the FA Trophy “really seriously” as they bid to go on a “great run”, insists manager Carl Heeley.

The Blue and Whites will go up against Curzon Ashton in the third qualifying round at the Tameside Stadium tomorrow night (7.45pm).

It will be the second time in three days City have made the trip north after Saturday’s clash was called off due to a frozen pitch.

But Heeley insisted his side, who had been scheduled to face Curzon in the Vanarama National League North tomorrow evening, were raring to go.

“We have been around long enough to know postponements happen,” said City’s boss, who will be without centre-back Sam Oji with a quad injury.

“We had to come back here anyway but we know it will now be an FA Trophy game instead of a league game.

“There might be one (player) that will struggle (to get here) but that’s about it, so we are not going to have too many issues.”

After reaching at least the first round of the FA Cup in the last two seasons, City were left frustrated when Brackley Town knocked them out at the third qualifying round stage with a 3-0 victory at the Victoria Ground.

The Trophy also provides financial incentives for the cash-strapped club and Heeley said it was a competition they were looking to go far in.

“You can get to Wembley in the Trophy,” said Heeley, whose side are in 13th place in the sixth tier, six points off the relegation zone.

“It will be tough to get there but it is a great opportunity and we have got to seize that and do as well as we can.

“We didn’t have the run we wanted in the FA Cup compared to what we have experienced in previous years.

“But the Trophy is a great competition as well. We will take it really seriously as we want to go on a great run in it.”
