THE “versatility” of Jordan Keane was what attracted Worcester City boss Carl Heeley to sign him from Nuneaton Town.

The former Stoke City youth team player came off the bench to make his debut in Worcester’s 2-1 defeat to high-flying AFC Fylde on Saturday.

Heeley said the 23-year-old, who is the elder brother of City player Cieron Keane, would provide competition for “terrier-like” Junior English while adding “presence” and “quality” in a number of positions.

“If you look at our midfielders, we have got Connor Gater and Danny Jackman, who are footballers, and Ebby Nelson-Addy, who is all about energy,” Heeley said.

“Junior is the only one who does that terrier-like job in breaking the play up. If we have not got him then that leaves us quite light.

“Jordan is a little bit of a mixture as he is a footballer but he is also 6ft 3in, can tackle, is a strong boy and goes and heads it and that’s the reason we brought him in.

“But he can also play at full-back, centre-half and as a target man upfront, so that versatility was an attraction.”

Heeley added: “His best position is as a defensive midfielder. He is very comfortable on the ball with two good feet and he adds presence and quality. You could see that on Saturday.”

Keane, who has previously played for Alfreton Town, reunites with his brother who joined City in the summer after leaving Nuneaton.

“Obviously as Cieron and Jordan are brothers they talk to each other and we knew he was not overly happy at Nuneaton for the last four to six weeks,” Heeley added.

“When we got to the point where there was a possibility we could do something, I spoke to the manager and the chairman at Nuneaton.

“They were very helpful to us as we managed to get a deal done and they mutually terminated his contract and allowed us to sign him.”
