VERSATILE Jordan Keane has saluted the “togetherness” in Worcester City’s squad and believes his new team-mates possess “more potential” than his former club Nuneaton Town.

The 23-year-old will hope to make his first start for the Blue and Whites in tomorrow’s FA Trophy first-round trip to National League basement boys York City (3pm).

Keane has linked up at City with his young brother Cieron and came off the bench to make his debut in the 2-1 National League North defeat to high-fliers AFC Fylde last Saturday.

“I definitely see more potential at Worcester (than Nuneaton),” said Keane.

“There’s a bit of togetherness in the whole (Worcester) squad.

“It’s a small squad which can be a good thing because when you have a tight-knit squad it works well.

“There’s a lot of quality in there and it’s just knitting it together.”

Keane, who has previously played for Alfreton Town, says he was “keen to get on board” with Worcester once he knew they were interested in his services.

“Last season we had a good spell at Nuneaton,” he said.

“We were top of the table at Christmas but fell off and just missed the play-offs by a point.

“I got on really well with the manager and coaches (at Nuneaton), loved the lads and enjoyed training and playing. But it didn’t work out in the end so I have come to Worcester to kick on.

“The new gaffer at Nuneaton had put me into midfield and gave me a lot of confidence and I was really enjoying it.

“But, when someone comes in for you, you have to look at things and that’s what I did and jumped aside.

“Once I heard Worcester were interested in me and with Cieron being there I was keen to get on board.”

City manager Carl Heeley thinks Keane will provide competition for “terrier-like” Junior English while adding “presence” and “quality” in a number of positions.

Keane said: “I enjoy playing mostly in midfield but if the gaffer wants to put me at right-back, left-back, midfield, centre-back or up top I will do it.

“It’s good for the gaffer that I can play anywhere but I want to start nailing down a couple of positions, and perhaps even one, where I can fully go for it.

“I don’t mind at all dropping into other positions.

“I am looking to get on with everybody. I’ve not come to Worcester to cause problems. I have come to play football.

“Cieron has told me a lot about the club and it seems good.”
