FUMING manager Carl Heeley slammed the “total idiots” who launched “abuse” at him and his players during Worcester City’s 3-1 defeat at York City.

A total of 82 fans made the trip to Bootham Crescent to see the Blue and Whites exit the FA Trophy at the first round stage.

But Heeley was incensed by “five per cent” of those who he claimed arrived at the ground with the “sole purpose” of drinking alcohol and shouting “rubbish” at his team.

And he insisted City “could do without them”.

“We brought a decent support on Saturday and I need to apologise to 95 per cent of them who were great,” he said.

“But why do we have to put up with five per cent of total idiots who leave Worcester in the early hours of the morning with the sole purpose of drinking too much beer and abusing individuals?

“It is an absolute disgrace and I am sick to the back teeth of them.

“I just wholly wish they would come and speak to me instead of shouting because in 22 years it has never happened and it drives me crazy.

“Every time there is a game that is perceived to be bigger than the norm we have to tolerate that abuse.”

Heeley said he was particularly unhappy with the insults targeted at midfielder Junior English who came off the bench in the second half to score City’s only goal on 74 minutes.

“Some of the things I heard shouted at Junior were an absolute disgrace,” he said.

“Junior is a great lad. He is worth his weight in gold.

“I don’t care less and neither does he if people get on his back because I know what he brings and I pick the team - until I am told otherwise - not those clowns who shout abuse at him.”

However, Heeley was keen to stress that the majority of City’s supporters were “great people” and urged them to “point out the idiots”.

“I was talking to 20 or 30 of them before the game and they are great people who travel everywhere supporting the club,” he said.

“Unfortunately five per cent of idiots overrule those 95 per cent and I am sick to death of them as they drink too much alcohol and shout rubbish at me and my players.

“And quite frankly, I wish I could see every single one of them as I am absolutely fuming.

“Unfortunately this football club is tarnished with them.

“How they can look themselves in the mirror and call themselves supporters is beyond me.”

City were hoping to pull off a cup upset, but within 15 minutes York were 2-0 up following an own goal from Jordan Keane and a powerful shot from Jon Parkin.

A header from English closed the gap, but Rhys Murphy sealed victory with a late penalty for National League’s bottom side.

“There is no disgrace coming to York City and getting beaten in the FA Trophy as we gave a good account of ourselves,” Heeley added.

“They are currently bottom of the division above, but they won’t be there for long playing like that.”
