STRIKER Colby Bishop looks set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after sustaining what Worcester City boss Carl Heeley fears is a “serious” knee injury.

The 20-year-old frontman looked visibly in pain when he landed awkwardly in the first half of City’s 3-1 loss at York City in the FA Trophy first round.

After being carried off the pitch on a stretcher, Heeley confirmed Bishop was on clutches and said his knee had “swelled up quite badly”.

“His studs have stayed planted in the grass and his knee has turned, so I am just hoping it is not cruciate (ligament damage),” he said.

“But it does not look good as it has swelled up quite badly and he is on crutches, so we need to let that swelling go down.”

Bishop, a former Notts County youth team player, has scored seven goals since joining Worcester in the summer.

“We have got to remember that he is a young lad making his way in the game and we could do without a serious injury to him, so we wish him all the best and we will look at after him the best we can,” Heeley continued.

The loss of Bishop would be another blow to City as Heeley said the experienced Lee Hughes had yet to overcome his knee problem and felt sick on the day of the game.

“Lee injured his knee and he has not been able to train all week and then he is ill in bed, so he could not even travel with us,” he added.
