GOALKEEPER Nick Draper has turned down another spell at Bedworth United to fight for his place at Worcester City.

The Grimsby-based stopper has returned to Worcester after completing his one month loan deal at the Northern Premier League Division One South outfit.

City boss Carl Heeley said he offered the 23-year-old the chance to stay out at Bedworth where he made eight appearances.

But Heeley said Draper was determined to reclaim the number one jersey at Worcester, which is currently occupied by Ethan Ross.

“Nick’s loan ended and we said would you like to stay out and play some games because there is a 24 hour call back with goalkeepers,” Heeley said.

“But he wanted to come back and fight for his place, so we were only too happy to have him back in the fold again.”

Draper, who joined City in the summer and featured three times this term, was on the bench for City’s 2-1 defeat to AFC Fylde and 3-1 loss at York City last Saturday.

“We want competition because it keeps people are on their toes,” said Heeley, whose side travel to Gainsborough Trinity in the Vanarama National League North on Saturday (3pm).

“You can see the levels of performance are slowly getting better because there is more competition. Nick has played about seven or eight games and he feels ready to come back and challenge.”
