WORCESTER City fans have taken to social media to pay tribute to “legend” Carl Heeley following his resignation as manager.

Heeley has stepped down after seven years in charge of the club and many City supporters saluted his “passion", “dedication” and “strength of character” during his reign.

Jem Lenton.

Top man Carl. Thanks for the recent fantastic memories. A proper Worcester legend deserved better from some so called supporters. Can't wait to see who our fantastic board appoint now.

Ian Pardoe.

True legend of the club, had an impossible job with no money and no structure to the club, the memories will last for ever and some supporters have short memories and should be ashamed of themselves, dignity till the end and he can leave with his head held high.

Sarah Beaudro.

A legend for the club who gave us some great memories as a player and manager but definitely time for a change.

I fear for the future of the club, something needs to be done and quick otherwise WCFC will be no more.

Andy Bell.

Carl is Worcester City - pretty much the last man left who deeply cares about our once proud club. With him gone what is left? True legend. A sad day. Thanks for all you have done and all those memories.

Marc Burrow.

Really sad to hear this.

City through and through, amazing servant to the club, which won't ever be equalled.

Fantastic bloke and his strength of character was unbelievable. Best of luck Carl.

Jez Cole.

Gutted, what a legend! He really worked hard. Thanks for the best moment in the clubs recent history beating Coventry at the Ricoh Arena. My family will never forget that day.

Good Luck for the future!

Graham Francis.

WCFC will never be the same again. King Carl was WCFC through and through.

I for one Carl salute you for your dedication and passion for what was a great football club.

You and your family should be really proud of what you have achieved and now start to make up for that sacrifice and enjoy the quality time together.

Andy Daniel.

While I think Carl has done a brilliant job for the City over the last few years, with loads going on behind the scenes, I think he has made the right decision at this time, for both himself and the football club.

Steve Price.

Well loved and respected by fans and players. Difficult to replace. Cheers Carl if you are reading this; good luck for the future and all that.

Still not sunk in - I havent known City without Carl Heeley. Feel so sorry for him feeling the need to leave so abruptly after a 3-0 loss.

Charlotte Cooper (@charliemae2011).

Carl has done a great job for the club but I respect his decision to go. Hope the minority who wanted him out are now happy.

Rhys (@rhysgoode1).

Almost 1000 games as player/manager. The 97 minutes at the Ricoh. Regardless of people's opinions, as far as club icons go he tops the list.

Tim Clarke (@TJClarke_).

Always had a lot of respect for Carl & job he has done at that club in such difficult circumstances. Worked miracles at times. A huge blow.
