INTERIM boss John Snape admits he is “totally disheartened” by Worcester City’s lowly position in Vanarama National League North.

However, he says he is willing to push on and help the cash-strapped club while chairman Anthony Hampson and his board look for a new manager.

It has been almost exactly one month since Carl Heeley ended his seven-year reign following City’s 3-0 loss at Gloucester City.

Since then, Snape, who was Heeley’s number two, has been in temporary charge, with assistance from captain Danny Jackman, but results have failed to improve.

After holding Tamworth to a 1-1 draw, City went down 3-0 at Harrogate Town and 2-1 to Halifax Town before crashing to a 2-0 loss at rock-bottom Altrincham last Saturday.

The Blue and Whites are also in the bottom three and have not tasted a league victory since November 12.

“Of course I am disheartened, I am totally disheartened,” he said.

“I can run away and hide. Would that be the easiest thing to do? I am not sure.

“We will see what happens in the week.

“The club may say we need a change as they are still looking for a new manager anyway.

“But I will help the club this week as usual.”

Earlier this month, Worcester put all their players up for transfer as they try to cut costs while they remain in exile.

The club’s bosses have also recently quashed rumours of taking voluntary relegation this season.

“I am probably getting a bit sick and bored of listening to the same old questions about the turmoil at the club and the management position," Snape added.

“For us all, let’s be a bit more original and have something positive to talk about.

“But on Saturday we weren’t good enough and the players all know that.”

Despite their latest loss, City remain two points behind 19th placed Gainsborough Trinity who lost 1-0 to Curzon Ashton.

However, Snape’s side now face play-off chasing Darlington 1883 at Bromsgrove’s Victoria Ground on Saturday (3pm). Seventh-placed Darlington ran out 5-1 winners the last time the two sides met in October.

“I still think there are some very good football players at this club which are lacking confidence,” he added.

“But you can only get that by getting yourself a win and that’s down to them and me to try to sort out.

“We are no worse off or better in the table and we will see what reaction we get from the players.

“When we went to Darlington, we did suffer with their set piece, so we will be working on that in the week.”
