WORCESTER City’s makeshift forward Junior English insists he needs to add goals to his game to become a complete striker.

The experienced midfielder admitted caretaker boss John Snape “did not believe” he had ever played up front when he asked to lead City’s attack.

Since being pushed forward, English has made a big impression, playing a key role in claiming points against Darlington and Nuneaton Town.

The 31-year-old stressed how much he enjoyed the “physical battle” with defenders and seeing Jordan Murphy bag three goals in his last two games.

But English, who has scored three times this term, says it was now time for him to find his shooting boots.

“I am enjoying playing up front to be honest,” said English, who is expected to start alongside Murphy against Boston United at Bromsgrove’s Victoria Ground on Saturday (3pm).

“I enjoy the physical battles and I told Snapper to keep me up there until we lose.

“I think my general hold up play is alright as I am quite big and physical, but it is just about getting a goal. Once I get that, I will be complete.

“But as long as we are winning games, it does not matter who scores.”

English joined City in the summer after more than a decade at Solihull Moors where he is understood to have played in almost every position.

“When I was at Solihull I played up front for a few games when (former Moors boss) Marcus Bignot didn’t have a striker,” said English.

“We used to have Omar Bogle up top and if he was injured or unavailable then I used to play instead. I told Snapper I had played there and he did not believe me.”
