JUNIOR English and Tyler Weir bagged a brace of prizes at Worcester City’s end-of-season awards ceremony.

The Blue and Whites might be languishing in Vanarama National League North’s bottom three and facing a battle to stay up heading into their final day encounter at AFC Fylde on Saturday (3pm).

But an event was still put on at Bromsgrove's Victoria Ground to recognise players, fans and staff for their efforts during a turbulent campaign.

English was one of the stars of the show as he was named Managers’ Player of the Season by caretaker boss John Snape.

The 31-year-old, who joined City from Solihull Moors last summer, fought off competition from Cieron and Jordan Keane to claim the top accolade.

“Junior epitomized everything when the club had a rocky patch as he stayed loyal to us,” Snape said.

The experienced midfielder, who has also been playing up front in recent weeks, also collected the Players’ Player of the Season award off captain Danny Jackman.

“Junior is a great, honest lad, who gives his all on the pitch and is one of the senior members of the squad,” Jackman said.

“He has played in a few positions this season and you never hear a bad word said about him as all the lads fully respect him.”

English added: “I am delighted to receive these individual awards, especially Players’ Player.

“It has not come in the best of circumstances with regards to the season.

“But it’s nice that fellow players have voted for me.”

Full-back Weir also had a double dose of success as he won the Supporters’ Player and Sponsor’s Player of the Season awards.

Goalkeeper Ethan Ross was named Supporters’ Young Player of the Season while Jordan Murphy edged Cieron Keane to the top scorer award after netting in City’s 2-1 defeat to Salford City at the weekend to increase his goal tally to seven.

Supporters of the Season went to the Cooper family – Wayne, Melanie and Charlotte - who have not missed a City game this term.

There was also a parting gift for John Jordan who was handed the Clubman of the Season gong after his decision to end his seven-year stay as company secretary.
