NEW recruit Tom Fishwick is targeting a big day out at Wembley with Worcester City after falling at the final hurdle last season.

Centre-half Fishwick, 20, had his move from last season’s Midland League Premier Division runners-up Coleshill Town rubber stamped after featuring in Saturday’s 2-2 friendly draw at Halesowen Town.

The ex-Redditch United, Banbury United and Rugby Town defender started all seven FA Vase matches as the Colemen reached the semi-finals of a competition that City will feature in for the first time this season.

In the end Fishwick and his colleagues were ousted by Northern League heavyweights and eventual winners South Shields across two legs and this time he wants to go one better.

“It was great,” said Fishwick. “Once you get to four rounds away from Wembley you feel pretty close and it just kept rolling.

“It might sound stupid but we went into every game with no thought of getting beaten, even against South Shields in the semi-final we felt we knew what they were about.

“We did get unlucky with the semi-final draw, they have some great players and we didn’t get the breaks in the home leg.

“We got torn apart up there but it was great to go that far. The whole buzz around it and everything else was a great experience.

“The lads there were brilliant, we had a great time and I would like to do the same here at Worcester. There is every reason to think we can.

“I spoke to Lee (Hughes, joint-manager) last week, played in some of the warm-up matches and straight away I felt it would be a great squad to join.

“They also have a great set-up and side at Coleshill. No doubt they will be right up there again but if Worcester aren’t in contention for the FA Vase and the league then there’s something wrong.

“This is a massive club and even though it has dropped down I know the intention is to win the league and keep pushing on from there. I want to be a part of that.”

And Fishwick revealed Hughes’ professional pedigree had been a factor in his decision to switch to the title hopefuls.

“I am always learning and whether it is here or at previous clubs you come across players who have been there and done it,” he added.

“It is a case of listening, picking things up and taking it from there. You look at Lee who has played at the highest level there is and in training sessions I feel like I can learn a lot.

“The squad here is more than capable of winning this league. I think we will be right in there across the board. This can be a good season for the club which makes it an exciting opportunity for me.”
