HAMILTON Chiwara insists he is content to be Worcester City’s flexible friend in spite of captain Tyler Weir’s departure.

The 18-year-old made his first start for City when filling in for the suspended skipper at right-back against Quorn on Saturday two days prior to Weir’s transfer to Hednesford Town.

Chiwara, a summer recruit from Kidderminster Harriers, initially signed to play in the middle of defence and plied his trade in central midfield during his youth days at Aggborough.

But rather than specifically targeting Weir’s shirt he simply has his heart set on playing as much as possible.

“It is going well and I am taking it easy, game by game I am trying to ease myself into matches to hopefully do well,” said Chiwara.

“I emailed the club for open trials and had a few sessions here before being signed up for the under 21s. From there, I worked my way up and have been trying to make an impression.

“I started off in central midfield for Kidderminster but signed here as a centre-half.

"Who knows, things change and I have played right-back before. I want to play so I am happy to be versatile.

“Kidderminster wanted me back for another season but I wanted to gain some first-team experience in a senior league.

"I thought it would be a good idea to come here and it has gone well for me so far.

“I feel like I am getting better and fitter all the time.

"Physicality plays a big part in the game but at the same time you have to be clever, it is not always about throwing your body in. You have to be smart at times.

“Not being the biggest guy on the pitch all the time, I have learned to use my body in a different way.

“Right now it is all about getting minutes, the more I get the more experience I gain and the better I get. It is building my confidence.”
