WORCESTER City were made to work to secure progress in the FA Vase, falling behind twice in a 4-3 extra-time win at Midland League Premier Division rivals Boldmere St Michaels.

Here, we rate the players…

MATT GWYNNE 6

Bravely charged off his line at key times but like his defensive colleagues, not always convincing at set pieces.

HAMILTON CHIWARA 5

Appears to be lacking confidence, on the end of a few harsh words from team-mates more than once which didn’t seem to help matters.

AARON GRIFFITHS 5

Too frequently caught hesitating or in possession but his effort could not be questioned. A tough afternoon for the left-back.

ALEXANDRU ALBERT 7

Did not win every battle with the burly Curvin Ellis but had a better time of it than the rest of the backline. The fact Boldmere's management and officials spoke of his quality at full-time was telling.

MARK SMITH 6

Like Albert, had a shaky start but grew into the game. While City’s errors were punished, Smith played a big part in a solid finish to extra-time.

NATHAN HAYWARD 7

Picked some good passes from deep and was relatively solid in the middle. Put in the hard yards as usual.

JOSH SARMENTO 7

Probably a bit too fancy for his own good at times but when it came off, the Portuguese winger was a joy to watch. His back heel for Mark Danks at 2-1 City deserved to be finished off.

BRAD BIRCH 6

Solid enough start before being forced off with an ankle injury.

MARK DANKS 7

His importance to City was summed up by their lack of flow until he got going. Not his finest display yet still found the net in sublime fashion and got better as the game went on.

STAR MAN - DAVE REYNOLDS 8

Some wonderful link-up play, particularly early on, supplemented a top display in front of goal. If he can maintain both elements he could prove unstoppable at this level.

JAMIE SMITH 6

Generally quiet but played a delightful ball to unlock the Boldmere defence for the second goal.

Subs: Birley 7 (Birch, 23), Hughes 7 (Sarmento, 58), Evans 6 (Chiwara, 75). Unused: Baldwin, Dayus (g/k).
