MARKSMAN Dave Reynolds insists he will not have his head turned by any interest created through his deadly dozen for Worcester City.

The 29-year-old hitman, snapped up having notched a whopping 53 times for Malvern Town last season, has 12 goals to show for his first 15 outings in blue and white.

But the ex-City youth player has no intention of getting ahead of himself as he vies with the likes of ex-City striker Marco Adaggio, now at Highgate United, for the Midland League’s golden boot.

“I had a few opportunities to step up before I did but decided to stay through ease with my family,” said Reynolds.

“This season it felt like the right time to give it a run at a higher level.

“First and foremost my aim is to do well for Worcester City, to win this league and to play higher here. That is all I am focusing on.

“If people are looking then great but I am just going to keep doing everything I can to get this team to where we want it to be.

“I am focused for the whole season. Hopefully, we’re going to win this league and then see what happens next season.”

After being at City during his formative years, Reynolds turned out for Malvern Rangers “just to play with my mates and enjoy it again” prior to his rise to prominence with Town.

But while Worcester’s man of the moment picks up many of the plaudits he is quick enough to share them around.

“The team have come together well, we create so many chances so whoever plays up top is going to score goals,” said Reynolds.

“We just need to keep chipping away and getting the points to hopefully get ourselves up there soon.

“Sometimes you’re kicking yourself if you only get one or two and I would be disappointed not to score in every game.

“As much as I want to score goals, it doesn’t matter if we win. Sometimes you can be hyper-critical of yourself.

“Once you get into certain areas on the pitch and you get the first touch right, your first thought is to get a shot off.

“Sometimes in this league you’re better off setting it and going again but if I am anywhere around the 18-yard box it is my instinct to get a shot off.

“If it goes in, no one moans. If it doesn’t, you should have passed.”

Reynolds, rested last week, could return for today’s home clash with South Normanton Athletic at the Victoria Ground, Bromsgrove (3pm).
