JOINT-boss John Snape revealed Worcester City had made a move for a wide player to fill the boots of Josh Sarmento.

City filed notice of approach to a Midland Football League club for an unnamed attacking option on Sunday in the hope of adding more pace in the final third.

Sarmento signed in September and made 16 appearances before accepting an offer to climb two levels with Rushall Olympic earlier this month.

And Snape admitted the Portuguese winger’s departure had taken away the element of surprise that had previously supported City's artillery.

“Since Josh Sarmento left we have lacked something a bit different in wide areas,” said Snape.

“We are blessed with some excellent technical players but maybe it is time for something a bit more direct, someone with pace to get in behind teams.

“It is the kind of thing we want to add, particularly when thinking about the last 10-15 minutes of games when we might need to stretch things so we have put in an approach and hope to bring in another option soon."

Off the pitch, the club today announced it had submitted a pre-planning application with Worcester City Council for the proposed new stadium site at Parsonage Way.
