WORCESTER City has been paired with five new opponents in the provisional Midland Football League (MFL) Premier Division line-up for 2018-19.

Walsall Wood, Wolverhampton Sporting Community and Dunkirk, based by the River Trent to the south-west of Nottingham, have been promoted as champions of the three feeder leagues.

Ilkeston Town have also been promoted as MFL Division One runners-up with Romulus, who will relocate to Castle Vale in north Birmingham over the summer, relegated from Northern Premier League.

Asked about the prospect of facing Ilkeston, who regularly attracted attendances of more than 500 at the back end of last season, Snape quipped: "It depends whether or not we beat them.

"We look forward to big games and playing in front of big crowds. If Ilkeston bring a few to our place and we can take a few to theirs then the matches should make for good occasions.

"Whoever is in the league, it is about us doing well. Hopefully, we can sustain or build on the crowds we got last season."

On the rest of the new clubs, Snape added: "Winning any league is very difficult so congratulations to the clubs coming up, no doubt they will carry plenty of momentum into next season.

"Romulus have come down and I know Richard Evans (manager) very well. His sides have always been tough to deal with.

"All of the teams will add something we will take a respectful view of who and what we are up against."

With the division being reduced from 22 to 20 teams as part of a Football Association (FA) shake-up, seven clubs exit with a couple of surprises popping up today.

Heanor Town has taken voluntary relegation to the East Midlands Counties League with Rugby Town transferred laterally to the United Counties League Premier Division.

City’s landlords Bromsgrove Sporting and Coleshill Town got promoted with Haughmond, Shawbury United and Rocester suffering relegation.

The constitution is subject change and ratification at the MFL’s annual general meeting next month.
