WORCESTER City manager John Snape was philosophical about Alex Tomkinson’s decision to take up a Godfather-style approach from Barwell.
The winger is set to step up two levels, returning to the club he represented while attracting interest from Leicester City in 2015.
Snape expressed his disappointment but accepted a mix of “an offer he could not refuse” and playing closer to home made inevitable the departure of City’s joint manager’s player of the season.
“Alex has the chance to play at a higher level at a club closer to home,” said Snape.
“It seems as though he will be looked after there too. It was an offer he could not refuse.
“We’re gutted, of course, we see a lot of potential in Alex. I felt he developed aspects of his game well last season but I can see it from his point of view.
“We wish him all the best but now our focus has to be on the players that will be here next season.”
