WORCESTER City has swooped to capture ex-Bromsgrove Sporting ace Robbie Bunn from under the noses of his former club and other higher-ranked rivals.

The 23-year-old midfielder said he had been the subject of interest from Sporting, Redditch United and Evesham United over the summer.

Bunn finished last season at Littleton, where his father Wayne Bunn had been assistant manager, following the termination by mutual consent of his Rouslers contract in March.

Having made 36 appearances and scored 13 goals last season, his Victoria Ground exit came in the immediate aftermath of then-manager Paul Smith’s resignation.

Those efforts were not wasted as Bromsgrove went on to seal the Midland Football League championship 12 months after lifting the Division One crown with an unbeaten league record, a campaign which saw Bunn contribute 10 goals in 47 matches.

That form has provided the Redditch-based favourite with plenty of options but after consulting Smith and meeting City boss John Snape he has agreed terms to line up in blue and white next season.

“I am buzzing to get it over the line and am looking forward to giving it a good go in pre-season,” said Bunn.

“There are some top lads at Worcester City and I have heard good things about how Snapper works. I don’t see why we can’t challenge and have a good cup run as well."

Asked whether he had spoken to any other clubs, Bunn replied: “There were a few. Evesham, Redditch and Bromsgrove was a possibility too. I could have moved to Studley with my old man as well.

“There were no major talks. I had a few offers but to be honest I was keen as soon as Snapper rang me. With Worcester still playing at Bromsgrove as well, it adds a nice little touch.

“I had a chat with Smudge (Smith), who I get on very well with, and he spoke very highly of Snapper. He said we should get on like a house on fire.

“Worcester is a good club, it is a big club with a respected name. Hopefully, we can get back to where we should be. It is an exciting time and I can’t wait to get started.”

Bunn is City's first new signing of the summer with Jamie Smith, Mat Birley, Jordan Stoddart, Dave Reynolds, Nick Turton, James Baldwin and Matt Gwynne all agreeing terms to be retained.

The news is particularly welcome on the back of former captain Brad Birch committing to Stourbridge for next season.

“I am really excited about this signing,” said Snape.

“Robbie is a complete all-rounder who works from box to box and can play anywhere across the midfield four.

“I envisage him playing in the middle but his flexibility will be important to us as next season progresses.

“He is a player I have admired for a while and Paul Smith has been very helpful in us securing his services.

“This is a proper signal of our ambition and shows the club is a draw for the top players in the area.”
