MICHAEL Taylor says Worcester City have to cut out the mistakes that are costing them in their play-off push.

Sixth-placed City make the long journey to Harrogate Town today (3pm) having failed to win back-to-back matches in the league since August.

They remain in the mix to finish in the Blue Square Bet North top five but have not been making life easy for themselves of late.

Despite recording a third consecutive away victory at Stalybridge Celtic last Saturday, Carl Heeley’s team slipped up again at St George’s Lane last Monday in losing 3-1 to Solihull Moors.

“It’s very frustrating,” said Taylor, who fired his eighth goal of the season in that match. “It’s really hard to explain. We do really well away from home.

“I thought we started off OK last Monday but then it was little mistakes. There aren’t that many goals that have been scored against us that have been good goals, most have been mistakes and that’s cost us.”

He continued: “It’s late on in the season so we’ve just got to take one game at a time now and hope for the best.

“We can’t look at the table any more, we’ve just got to keep our heads down for each game and try our hardest.”

Taylor, who has netted three times in his last five games, is third in City’s scoring charts behind Mike Symons on 12 and Danny Glover with 10.

Although he has already comfortably surpassed last season’s total of five, Taylor says his number one aim is to help City win matches.

“I’m happy but it doesn’t really matter to me if we don’t win,” the former Earlswood Town hitman said. “I like to win and that’s all I care about. Even if I’m scoring it doesn’t count for anything unless we win.”

Meanwhile, tickets remain on sale for City’s final league match at the Lane against Chester on Saturday, April 27.

Around 2,000 are left for the historic fixture but the club will give any remaining to Chester next month in a bid to fill the ground.

Supporters are urged to purchase theirs as soon as possible from the office or club shop from Monday to Friday between 10am and 4pm.
