STRIKER Mike Symons says he made a mistake leaving Worcester City and is ready to make up for lost time when he once again pulls on the blue and white shirt.

The 27-year-old has agreed a one-year deal to return to the Conference North club for a second stint following 12 months at Oxford City.

He is aiming to rediscover the form that saw him net 33 goals in two seasons for Carl Heeley’s team, earning him the player-of-the-year honour in 2011-12.

Symons is eager to help Worcester improve on their 15th place finish last term following a dismal campaign at Oxford that yielded just five goals.

“I am really pleased to come back,” he said. “When I Iook back on leaving it was a hard decision and I realised I made a mistake and want to prove I am what Worcester need.

“I got the feeling I could go away and freshen up but it didn’t really work out and I was lucky Carl rang me and asked if I wanted to come back.

“There was no hesitation. Worcester is a great club and I had two good years there.

“It wasn’t one of my most enjoyable seasons at Oxford and my own performances were disappointing. I didn’t play as many games as I would have liked so I am looking forward to playing more games and getting some consistency.”

He continued: “I feel like I am focused on my football again and I want to crack on. I am 27 now and have got three or four years left to play at the highest level I can and I want to make the most of them.

“Where Worcester finished up last season was fantastic and hopefully we can push on and up the table.

“The whole set up at Worcester is great and the coaching sessions with Carl and Matt (Gardiner) are spot on. Their man-management gets the best out of you.”

It will be the first time Symons has experienced football for City at Aggborough having left in the wake of the club’s departure from St George’s Lane.

But he returned with Oxford in December, a match the visitors won 2-0, and is raring to perform regularly at Worcester’s temporary home.

“It’s a great stadium to be at and it will get the best out of the lads,” the striker added.

Symons’ signing takes the number of players confirmed for next season to seven following the arrival of keeper Nathan Vaughan and re-signings of captain Ellis Deeney, player-of-the-year George Williams, Wayne Thomas, Tyler Weir and Graham Hutchison.

Goalkeeper Jose Veiga is also expected to return, while forward trio Daniel Nti, Ethan Moore and Aaron Williams all have offers on the table.
