LEADING scorer Mike Symons could be facing up to six weeks on the sidelines for Worcester City after suffering a hamstring injury against Guiseley.

The striker hobbled off 11 minutes into the second-half of Saturday’s game at St George’s Lane, which ended 2-2, having earlier scored his 10th goal of the campaign.

He is definitely out of tomorrow night’s Blue Square Bet North trip to Droylsden and City will be hoping Symons, who has been their best player this term, can make a quick recovery.

Manager Carl Heeley said: “It looks like a hamstring pull and they’re normally four to six weeks as a guide but it depends how bad it is.

“We’ll assess it in a few days and get a better picture of how long he’s likely to be out.

“We’ve got other forwards — Rob Elvins can play up there, we’ve got Danny Carey-Bertam, Luke Corbett, Simon Brown and Michael Taylor.

“It will be an opportunity for someone else, but they are big boots to fill because Mike’s been magnificent.

“If I had been Guiseley’s manager and saw him coming off injured I would have been jumping thr-ough hoops.

“I thought he tore them apart in the first-half.”

Heeley remained positive after seeing his team’s two-goal lead evaporate at the weekend but has now challenged his side to do better against the higher-ranked teams.

The City boss, whose team sit eighth in the table as one of three sides on 24 points, added: “Ob-viously we are disappointed from being 2-0 up and being in the driving seat, but once they got a goal we knew what was coming for the last 15 minutes.

“It was always going to be edge of the seat stuff,” added the City boss.

“Human nature tells you to drop deeper and protect your goal but I think you have to be braver than that, make the pitch big and keep the ball.

“We couldn’t do that to much effect as the game wore on and it gave them encouragement to come on to us.

“Everyone was silent afterwards because they were absolutely gutted that they haven’t beaten the side that in my opinion will be very close to winning the championship.

“It’s brilliant how far we’ve come but it’s no good competing with sides and saying we’ve done extremely well, we need to start taking points.

“We have taken a point off a very good side.

“It should have been three, it wasn’t but it’s not the end of the world.”
