ETHAN Moore is something of an enigma at Worcester City.

The striker’s time with the Skrill North club has not been plain sailing — he was briefly released in the summer after having his commitment questioned.

By his own admission the former Aston Villa youngster has found it tough this season and even manager Carl Heeley has said there have been “difficulties” behind the scenes.

But, on current form, he is the best out-and-out goalscorer they possess.

That point was underlined with his hat-trick in Sunday’s 3-0 FA Trophy victory over Ramsbottom United, which took his tally to seven goals in all competitions.

Unlike his team-mates, Moore is a poacher, the sort of striker who will score virtually all of his goals within 12 yards of the target.

Every team needs one and Moore is particularly effective, as well as being a clinical finisher.

Daniel Nti, who has scored four times this term, is more of a target man with the strength to hold the ball up, while Danny Glover, with three goals to his name, is often deployed deeper or out wide.

However, despite now being the leading marksman, Moore has been unable to nail down a regular starting slot having made five starts and eight substitute appearances.

The 20-year-old is now looking to get a regular run in the side and help City climb off the bottom of Skrill North, beginning at Stalybridge Celtic on Saturday.

“It’s been really tough to handle but I just kept my head down, kept training hard and I got my opportunity,” he said on being in and out of the team.

“I had difficulties getting in with travelling (during the summer) so they decided to let me go but I managed to sort it out with my dad so I could get here more often.

“I am here to score goals so hopefully I will get started this weekend but we’ve just got to see what happens.

“Hopefully, if I get a run of games now, I will be able to put a few goals in and help us move up the league.

“It’s not a good feeling being bottom of the league and not having won a league game for a while but we’ve just got to stick together and it should turn now.

“We’ll use the FA Trophy win as a springboard to go on and hopefully do well in the league.

“We’re all in this as a team so we’ve got to change it round together.”

Heeley is also keen to keep Moore in the team, adding: “He won’t be getting left out, he’s scored a hat-trick.

“It’s very easy from the outside to say why hasn’t he been playing more often, there’s been a few difficulties with him but he’s been training regularly for the last six weeks, had a few opportunities and it’s come good for him.”
