SECURING the services of Jamie Grimes for another two months could turn out to be fine piece of business by Worcester City.

Without the funds to be a major player in the market, City have had to work hard to strengthen their squad this season.

Although they were able to recruit midfielder Aaron Brown and striker Kristian Ramsey-Dickson on permanent deals, the club have had to nurture relationships with other clubs for loans.

One of those has been with landlords Kidderminster Harriers and central defender Grimes is the perfect example of how such an arrangement can bear fruit.

Initially brought in for a month, the 23-year-old has been able to get much-needed game time while helping Worcester in their hour of need.

Carl Heeley's side have certainly benefited from it, with Grimes playing a major role in stabilising the defence in the wake of the 6-1 drubbing at Bradford Park Avenue and subsequent four wins in five Skrill North matches.

By arranging to keep the player, currently deemed surplus to requirements in Harriers' promotion push for the Football League, until the start of April, City will be hoping to continue their fine form.

Grimes, along with Brown in the centre of midfield, has made Worcester a more robust proposition and the rest of the team have been dragged up a level as a result.

From being rooted in the relegation zone when they arrived, the Blue and Whites head to Guiseley on Saturday looking to close to within three points of the 10th-placed Yorkshiremen.

"Guiseley is a big game, if we beat them we go three points behind them. It's huge for us so we can close the gap," Grimes said. "In my time at Worcester I want to see how high up the table we can finish.

"I can't wait for the next game. When you go on a run of winning games it feels like a habit and you don't feel like you are going to lose.

"From seeing the squad of players they have got and the teams we've played I can't see how we are that far down the table.

"We have done really well against teams and even the game we lost at Vauxhall Motors I felt we deserved at least a point."

Grimes, released from Swansea City's academy in 2011, signed a one-year deal with Kidderminster last summer having originally agreed a short-term move last March.

He got a run in the side under Steve Burr but last played for the Skrill Premier outfit in November.

"I wasn't playing at Kidderminster and didn't look like playing," the defender said. "I am enjoying my time at Worcester so extending the deal was what I wanted to do and I am glad we got it done in time.

"I am enjoying my football and when you are enjoying yourself you play well and hopefully that has come across in my performances."
