FOR the past month, players and staff at Worcester City have been sporting moustaches to raise money for charity.
The Movember campaign sees men grow and groom their ’tache throughout the 30 days of November to promote awareness of prostate and testicular cancer.
There has been some fine facial foliage on display at St George’s Lane, not least that of assistant boss Matt Gardiner, captain Kevin O’Connor, right-back Martyn Naylor and forwards Danny Carey-Bertram and Simon Brown.
Physios Steve Ball and Martin Obrey have got in on the act along with football secretary Joe Murphy.
I have also joined in and will be glad of the chance to finally shave it off tomorrow, if only to divert the office humour elsewhere!
However, it has all been for a worthy cause and the efforts have helped bring in more than £1,000 so far, including over £150 from fans at Saturday’s FA Trophy game against Harrogate.
People can continue to donate into December via uk.movember.com, clicking on donate and searching for Worcester City under the ‘to a team’ option.
City’s bid was organised by Gardiner who believes it has been a resounding success.
“I think we have done really well. Everyone has had a good go,” he said. “For a lot of the lads it’s the first time they have done something like this for charity.
“It’s brought everyone together, gives a different topic of conversation in the dressing room and takes the pressure off. I don’t think it’s affected anything on the pitch but it’s given everyone a giggle for a good cause.”
