IN my time following Worcester City, I have been to Hinckley United on no less than five occasions.
You would think by now, therefore, that finding the Greene King Stadium would be a simple task.
Yet, despite having no issue with any of the other Blue Square Bet North grounds, I always seem to mess up when Hinckley is involved. It’s almost a tradition.
For reasons presumably post code-related, sat navs don’t work for this journey to Leicestershire and leave unsuspecting drivers and football reporters stranded in the middle of nowhere.
It’s not just me either — City chief Anthony Hampson, vice-chairman Colin Layland and director Mike Davis did not arrive at Monday’s match until Carl Heeley’s team had pulled level at 2-2. Perhaps a blessing in disguise given the early defensive deficiencies.
Having learned my lesson from previous panics and flustered phone calls, I left my trusty piece of gadgetry at home and used the directions supplied by Worcester City Supporters’ Club.
This time I got there first time, no problems. Easy. So easy, in fact, I got lost on the way home trying to retrace my tracks!
I’m already looking forward to next season’s visit.
