NEW Worcester City Supporters Trust chairman Dave Wood believes there has never been a more important time to join the club’s fans’ group.
With the Blue Square Bet North club facing uncertainty beyond June 2013, when they are due to leave St George’s Lane, Wood has urged supporters to help secure its future by signing up and volunteering.
As well as having a voice on the club’s board, via director and trust representative Mike Davis, the organisation plays a lead role in fundraising activities.
Wood was elected to the hot-seat at the fan group’s annual meeting, with Julian Pugh installed as his deputy.
They take over from Colin Layland and Rich Widdowson respectively, the duo stepped aside because of their commitments on the board at the club.
“Our next major step is to increase membership because, although the move to Nunnery Way has been approved by the council, we still don’t know what the future will be and we want it to be sustainable,” Wood said.
“We believe it’s even more important people get involved and have a say in how the club is run.
“It’s our local club and we want it to have a future. It’s going to be a hard journey because even with Nunnery Way, we have still got to find the money to build the first phase and generate more cash after that.”
He added: “I am a fan of the club and the reason I got involved was to try and influence the way the City are run.
“Many moons ago the fans didn’t get much of a say but that’s changed and I think it’s vital fans have that interface.”
Layland and Widdowson remain on the trust’s board and are joined by Kevin Preece, Niels Eiriksson, Nic Lee and secretary Rob Crean.
The next fundraising event will see a real ale and cider promotion in the social club before Monday’s match against Histon and the visit of Gainsborough Trinity on Saturday, February 4.
Joining the trust costs £1 per year and anyone interested can sign up via wcfcst.co.uk
