WORCESTER City’s season may have finished but that’s not the end of football at St George’s Lane.
As well as the assortment of local league cup finals, Friday sees the 10th annual staging of the club’s ‘Big Match’.
It will pit two teams of fans against each as they do battle for the Tony Moore Memorial Shield, presented in honour of the former Worcester Evening News deputy sports editor.
Set-up like any City fixture, one side will wear Worcester’s royal blue home kit with the other decked out in their away colours of green and white hoops.
In addition to the supporters donning their boots, chairman Anthony Hampson has turned out in the past and this year is set to feature safety officer Kevin Preece and kitman Kevin Gardiner.
I will also be putting my laptop down and venturing out of the press box for a game. Now, if that’s not an incentive to come down and watch, I don’t know what is!
All the money raised — it’s £35 to start the match or £30 to be a rolling substitute with a few places still remaining — will go to the club’s supporters’ trust.
Kick-off is at 7pm and entry is free.
