HANLEY Swan's Anna Bailey achieved her fifth World Indoor Rowing Championships title.

Bailey claimed gold in the women's 55 to 59-year-old race with another comfortable win in seven minutes 35.9 seconds.

Still nursing a tender wrist 15 months after a break, her time also set a new championship record at Boston University's Agganis Arena.

The UK provided the largest overseas contingent in snow-covered Massachusetts, securing seven gold medals, four silvers and three bronzes.

Worcestershire-based Old Wrecks Indoor Rowing Club made up a large proportion of the team and Evesham's Eddie Fletcher was again appointed as the GB team coach.

Brian Bailey, in his first world contest, claimed gold in the men's 60 to 64-year-old lightweight race.

Although some way outside his own world record, he had a comfortable win in 6:50.9.

Sue Little managed silver in the women's 55-59 lightweight event with a time of 7:54.4. Megan Brown and Rachel Armstrong raced one another in the women's 30-39 race, finishing fifth and sixth with times of 7:20.9 and 7:27.7 respectively.

Alastair Harsant finished eighth in a personal best time of 6:46.9 in the men's 30-39 lightweight race.

Neil Little was not on top form but managed eighth in the men's 55-59 lightweight event with his time of 7:29.4.

Brian Garner had a steady race although not feeling at his best, finishing 10th in the men's 50-54 lightweight event in 7:25.2.

The men's 40-49 lightweight race produced another personal best, this time from Mark Pukita who came 14th in 7:10.7.

In the men's 40-49 race, Kevin Anderson struggled in the middle section of his race, finishing 33rd in a disappointing time of 6:57.6.
