EVESHAM kart racer James Thorp enjoyed his first international win when he took a lights-to-flag victory in the final round of the Industrial Trophy at Parma, Italy.
Thorp had moved up into the senior KF2 class after his third place in the Junior KF3 European Championship in September.
In the first round, the Kings School Worcester student was fast but fell victim to another driver's accident and did not finish the final.
Staying in Italy for the week gave him a chance to mentally prepare.
After taking pole position, only once did Thorp falter with a close second place in his first heat race.
In the final, he led from the start, finishing more than five seconds ahead of his nearest rival.
Thorp was seventh overall in the mini-series and is being courted by several teams and manufacturers for a works drive next year.
His next race will be at the start of November in the British Winter Series at the PF International in Lincolnshire.
